Allowing the component will give limited access to the user’s personal profile to other users who are not in the friends’ list of Facebook. When user did locks his/her own profile, non-friends or other people who aren’t in the friends list will not be able to see post, also share or download his/her own profile image and cover image too.
They will not be eligible to even zoom into any images that profile is locked. No unfamiliar users will be eligible to see images at the moment that posts shared by a user on the Facebook timeline. This involves both new and old image and posts.
For Android and iOS users
Step 1: Open the pre-installed your Facebook App and click on the three-dot menu.
Step 2: Tap on your profile name or profile picture “See your profile” click on the three-dot on the side of right.
Step 3: Choose the Lock Profile option. It will show instructions on how to lock a profile.
Step 4: A pop-up will say “You Locked Your Profile” and it will be done without any hassle.
How to lock profile on Desktop
Step 1: Browse the official website of Facebook, https://www.facebook.com and click on your profile.
Step 2: Click on the three-dot on the side of right on your profile.
Step 3: You will see “Lock Profile” option.
Step 4: Select Lock Profile and click OK. Now click on the Lock Your Profile option.
If, at some point in the future, you want to “unlock” your profile, Facebook allows it too. If you want to do this, you need to follow the steps above and select “Unlock your profile”.
Once you follow the steps above, your personal profile will be locked and it will also display a message that whenever a stranger visits your profile the profile is locked. However, you can always remove the profile lock and apply a bunch of other privacy and security settings to your account.
Before launching the Profile Lock feature, Facebook already had an option called “Profile Picture Guard”, which allows users to lock their profile picture from profile visitors. This feature is still available and it basically prevents profile viewers from viewing or downloading profile photos on their devices. As for the new “Facebook Profile Lock” feature, it can help users hide their profile details and other activities including posts to their timelines.
